2024/2025 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League launched

The 2024/2025 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season has officially been launched in a colorful event at the headquarters of the association, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

The launch in Accra, saw the attendance of GFA Executives, Malta Guinness Executives, and representatives from some Women’s Premier League clubs set to compete in the new season.

This year’s season event dubbed “Top career women in Football’’ saw Career women from all sectors of the football Eco-system gracing the event in their beautiful regalia.

Speaking at the launch of the season, Women's Football Representative on the Executive Council, Dr. Gifty Oware-Mensah, emphasized on the the significant investment made in the development of the women's game over the years with support from Malta Guinness and other partners.

She noted that the GFA has trained more women coaches than any other African country over the past three years and has made substantial efforts in developing administrators, coaches, and officiating officials.

She added that, each of the 20 WPL clubs will receive 30 pairs of football boots, 30 footballs, and an appearance fees of GH₵60,000 for Northern Zone clubs and GH₵65,000 for Southern Zone clubs while assuring that all matches in the upcoming season will have extensive media coverage across both zones.

“We have done a lot with the money from the FA so far. We have trained all Division One club administrators providing them with knowledge of what they do,” she addressed.

“In addition, we have trained more coaches and goalkeepers’ coaches in Ghana than anywhere in the world. These are some of the things that the president started and we are continuing. Referees have also been trained to help minimize errors during games.

“The FA will continue to give the sixty thousand (GHS60,000) appearance fee to the clubs, provide all WPL clubs with 30 pair of boots and footballs for the season.

She added that GLOBE TV will broadcast matches in the Northern Zone while MAX TV takes charge of games in the Southern Zone to have a fair balance," she added.

On the part of headline sponsors, Malta Guinness, Marketing Manager, Dinah Adu Asare expressed gratitude to all stakeholder for making the past two seasons great while looking forward to another successful one in the 2024/25 season while assuring clubs there will be new and improved incentives for new season.

Dignitaries who graced the event included former Black Queens player and coach Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo (Fire Service), Vivian Aggor (Fire Service), Naomi Fainusatu (Prisons Service), Romanatu Tahiru (Immigration Service ), Fafali Dumehasi (Police Service), Edna Quargraine and Anita Wiredua-Mintah (Immigration Service ), W.O Dodaa (Military Service), Fadi Fattal ( Faith ladies), Christine Enyonam Zigah (Referee Chairperson/Banker), Collins Dei (GFA CFO), Janice Odonkor (Head of Business Development, GFA) among a host of others.

The new league season is set to kick off on the weekend of Friday 18- Monday 21 October across the Northern and Southern Zones.
