The 2024 Division One League (DOL) Super Cup kicked-off with thrilling matches on Match Day 1 with Okwawu United emerging as the early leaders of Group A, thanks to a narrow victory over New Edubiase United.
In the day's opening match, Young Apostles and Hohoe United played out a 1-1 draw. Akwasi Nti Randoff opened the scoring for Young Apostles in the 43rd minute, but Kwadwo Boamah equalized for Hohoe United just before halftime. Both teams had opportunities to secure a win in the second half, but the match ended in a stalemate.
Okwawu United then secured a 1-0 win against New Edubiase United, courtesy of a penalty converted by Kojo Zimbo. The victory came despite a late scare when New Edubiase were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. However, Okwawu United's goalkeeper, Maxwell Adom, saved the spot-kick from Samed Ibrahim, ensuring his team's win and ascent to the top of the group standings.
With these results, Okwawu United leads Group A with three points, while Young Apostles and Hohoe United follow with one point each. New Edubiase United, yet to secure a point, will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
