2026 MTN Elite U-19: Inusah Alhassan, Oscar Frimpong earn MVP honours as Eastern and Ashanti triumph
Eastern Region’s Inusah Alhassan and Ashanti Region’s Oscar Frimpong were the standout performers as both sides secured important victories in their respective Group A fixtures on Matchday Four of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship on Saturday.
Alhassan played a decisive role in Eastern Region’s impressive 3-1 victory over Volta Region, finding the back of the net in the 57th minute to restore the defending champions’ lead.
After Volta had cancelled out Ransford Siaw’s early opener, Alhassan’s second-half strike put Eastern back in front before Samuel Zakaria added a third goal to seal the victory. His influential display earned him the Man of the Match award.
Frimpong also produced a telling performance for Ashanti Region in their 2-0 victory over Western Region in the final Group A fixture of the day.
The youngster opened the scoring in the 51st minute, giving Ashanti the breakthrough before Mohammed Dayvon added a second in the 82nd minute to secure all three points.
Frimpong’s contribution to Ashanti’s commanding performance was recognised with the Most Valuable Player award, capping an impressive individual outing.
The individual accolades for Alhassan and Frimpong further highlight the emerging talent on display at the MTN Elite U-19 Championship, where young footballers continue to make significant contributions to their teams while gaining valuable competitive experience.
The championship remains an important platform for some of Ghana’s brightest young footballers to develop their technical and tactical abilities, build confidence and gain the competitive exposure needed to support their growth and future careers.
