As part of efforts to support juvenile and women's football at the Grassroots, Soccer For Dreamers, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) will hold its annual donation exercise on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the offices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra.

The initiative, in partnership with the GFA Foundation, will see the not-for-profit organisation hold a health talk for footballers, after which they will present some football equipment to their clubs.

This year's event, the third in succession since the initiative began in 2022, will have five women's teams from the Greater Accra Region, four male teams from the Eastern Region and one disability team from Kumasi.

Rationale

Explaining the rationale for selecting the beneficiary teams, the President of Soccer For Dreamers, Mrs. Sylvia Akwaboah, said it was to ensure that the initiative spreads its wings to support as many teams as possible.

Also, the inclusion of the disability team was indicative of its goal to enhance inclusivity.

"The main aim of this initiative is to support all players everywhere irrespective of where they are."

"For the first time, we will also have a disability team benefitting because we have been following the country's exploits in disability football and we are excited to provide our widow's mite to support them," Mrs Akwaboah said.

Event

Since its inception, the partnership has educated female footballers on menstrual hygiene and, at every event, distributed menstrual cups to support and help the players.

For the males, they have benefitted from health talks on diet, injuries, and their general wellbeing for the success of their careers.

Soccer For Dreamers

This is an initiative put together by three brothers - Baruch, Jed, and Kayden Akwaboah - who play school soccer in the USA. It is their way of supporting young footballers in Ghana who are dreaming of making something meaningful out of the sport.

GFA Foundation

For the GFA Foundation, its decision to partner Soccer For Dreamers on this project is in line with its mission and objective of Initiating and supporting projects and programmes that improve lives and livelihoods of Football people and communities. The GFA Foundation is the social investment and sustainability management structure for the Football Association. Launched in April, 2023, the Foundation is the vehicle that drives all GFA’s CSR, corporate citizenship and charity projects in Ghana.
