Yaw Acheampong thinks his first season in charge of AshantiGold could have an historic ending to it if the Miners win the MTN FA Cup title on Sunday.

AshantiGold have not won the Cup since 1993 when he captained the team to their only FA Cup success during their dominant era in the Ghanaian league.

Now as the man in charge, Acheampong's priority is building for a big future but wants to start off by winning the FA Cup title as a player and a coach, each time with AshantiGold.

His team comes up against debut finalist, New Edubiase at the Accra Sports Stadium and Acheampong is seeking to etch his name into the records of the Cup competition.

“I quite remember the last time we had this Cup in Obuasi, I was then the captain so it will be very nice to return this Cup to Obuasi as a coach,” Acheampong said.

Victory for AshantiGold will see them return to African club competition in next season’s Caf Confederations Cup.
