Despite a disappointing first round exit in the CAF Champions League, Asante Kotoko made a bold claim for the league title on Thursday with an important away victory.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated Medeama, one of the potential title contenders in the First Capital Plus Premier League 1-0 in Tarkwa in the first of two outstanding matches.

The champions have now opened a 7-point lead at the top of the standings ahead of their next game on Sunday against struggling side, Ebusua Dwarfs.

Ghana international Abeiku Ainooson scored in the 8th minute of the first half to give Didi Dramani a perfect response following their abortive continental campaign.

With tension rising in their camp, the win will at least calm the seething anger amongst their fans following last Sunday's elimination from the lucrative Champions League.
