Ghana goalkeeper William Amamoo has denied media reports in Zambia saying he is considering plans to switch nationality in order to play for the southern African nation.

The media in Zambia over the weekend were reporting that the Ghanaian was edging towards the Chipolopolo.

The news followed the signing of Italian-born coach Dario Bonetti, whom the Amamoo worked with during his career in Hungary.

But in a statement to the press, the goalkeeper expressed shock and utter dismay at the rumour linking him to the Chipolopolo.

“This is a figment of someone’s imagination,” he said. “I am a Ghanaian and remain loyal and committed to my beloved country Ghana and I have never considered switching nationality to Zambia. Ghana is where I belong.

“The news is totally preposterous and intended to sour my reputation and relationship with Ghanaians. My wish to return to the Black Stars is on course and I am happy to be working towards that here in Israel with my club Hapoel Petah Tikva.

“Moreover, Dario Bonetti, as the head coach, and Claudio Bozini [goalkeeper trainer] have not even approached me for anything of such nature and I don’t think they would dream of it. The news should not be taken seriously.”
