After scoring his debut Serie A goal over the weekend, Black Stars midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has now set his sights on following the path to greatness just as some of his more famous compatriots have travelled.

The Ghana international scored after 9 minutes to help Udinese to a 3-1 win over Fiorintina.

A present feature in the Udinese team in both the Serie A and UEFA Cup campaign recently, Asamoah says a lot of that is down to patience.

“When I went to Italy, I did not understand the language so it took time to settle,” said the former Liberty Professionals man who joined the Fruili outfit in January 2008.

“Now the coach has noticed I am doing well and can understand the language.”

As a substitute player, Asamoah says he's worked hard to establish himself but admits that he still has some work to do.

“Everything is about time and hard work. The fact that I am playing does not mean I should slow down. If I was training once, now I will train twice. I am not where I am yet so I will keep trying.”

At a club which has nurtured a good number of Ghanaian stars - Mohammed Gargo, Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan - the new Black Stars addition to the Udinese ranks is enjoying the environment.

“Udinese likes young players because they can train them and later on sell them to big teams. Every time Ghanaian players have gone there they have distinguished themselves and is proving a good start. Maybe if I had started at Milan or Juve it may have taken time.”
