Ghana international Derek Asamoah scored a goal for Pohang Steelers as they opened the 2012 Asian Champions League group stage with a 3-0 away win over Gamba Osaka on Tuesday.

Goals from Kim Tae-su and Zoran Rendulic handed the three-time continental champions a 2-0 lead in the Group E match before Asamoah put the result beyond doubt for Pohang in the 79th minute.

The top two teams in each of the eight groups advance to a knockout round of 16.
