Benedicta Danso struck late to earn Black Maidens a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Senegal in the first leg of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifier at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar on Friday.

It was an evenly contested first half, with both sides creating chances but unable to break the deadlock in the early minutes.

Senegal took the lead in getting to the interval through a spot kick, putting themselves in control of the tie.

However, the Black Maidens responded with determination and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Benedicta Danso calmly finished to restore parity.

The late equaliser gives the Black Maidens a valuable away draw and an important away goal ahead of the return leg in Accra.

Winner of this round book a place in the round of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco in October.
