Members of Ghana’s winning Fifa U-20 World Cup team will each pick up a salon car plus other financial packages for lifting the world title for the first time.
Government today announced a $750,000 package three weeks after Ghana lifted the world title, the first by an African nation at the age competition.
For the players, aside driving away the Toyota Corolla salon cars, each playing member will be entitled to an investment facility in the form of an insurance bond worth GH¢10,000 which will mature in 10 years time at an estimated worth of GH¢170,000.
The beneficiaries according to government can access the insurance bonds anytime after it matures.
The management committee members have been rewarded with $5,000 each plus their cars.
Government’s reward has been met with massive endorsement.
“This package will go a long way at motivating other athletes to excel in their various fields. We are very appreciative of the fact that the future of the players were factored into the reward.
“These are youngsters who will do with such a package which will help shape their futures off the field,” Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association said today.
A committee headed by Oko Nikoi Dzani was set up by government to fashion out a reward for the gold winners.
Cash donations totalling GH¢100,000 has been received on behalf of the Black Satellites so far from corporate entities and individuals.
Ghana, playing with ten men claimed their first major Under-20 World title after winning the competition on penalties over Brazil.
Agyeman Badu scored the decisive penalty kick to hand the Black Satellites a 4-3 win in Cairo after 120 minutes.
