Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng says a racist abuse he received from an opponent led to his meltdown in the Ukrainian top-flight over the weekend.

The 29-year-old was sent off for knocking down three opponents in 10 seconds while playing for his club Dnipro in their game against Vorskla Poltava on Saturday.

Boateng was given his marching orders as his club Dnipro were held 1-1 by Vorskla Poltava which attracted some criticism.

He had his marching orders on 81 minutes for a second bookable offence but a bizarre incident followed afterwards when he clashed with two other players.

The Ghanaian midfielder claims the racial abuse he suffered during the game led to his fury.

''Everybody who knows me knows I am not like that. It was as a result of a racist provocation by my opponent,'' Boateng said.

''The player called me Black Monkey as he approached me and that really hurt and I couldn’t take it.

''Some of my teammates around the incident heard it and therefore there is ample proof of what happened.

''I have informed my club and they have assured me they will be taking action on my behalf.''

Boateng is likely to be hauled before the disciplinary committee of the Ukrainian Football Federation.
