
The Ghana Football Association is happy to announce that its application for Licence “A” Coaching Courses to be held in Ghana under the new CAF Convention has been approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The approval of the course curriculum of the Ghana Football Association under the new CAF Coaching Convention by CAF is the final step of the work of the Technical Directorate in line with the vision by the GFA Executive Council.
Under the CAF Convention, the next step is the CAF Pro Licence which has currently been initiated and is fully organised at the CAF level rather than at the Association level.
The requirements for the CAF A Licence course at the Ghana Football Association will be at the highest standards ever with only 20 coaches per course class.
Under the criteria an Applicant will:
- Have completed the CAF B Licence.
- Under the new CAF Coaching Convention, coaches must have been working with the CAF B Licence qualification for a minimum of two years prior to the course start date.
- Have done their Refresher Course within the stipulated time recently – especially for those who had their CAF A Licence before the introduction of the new CAF Convention.
Applicant and selection Process
- An Applicant must send a completed Application Form (attached)
- An Applicant must attach his/her Passport or Ecowas Card details page (will help us determine citizenship and fees and correct name).
- Evidence from the club(s) he/she has been coaching for the required period (evidence that the coach is active and needs the licence to work at next level).
- A written statement of the need to take the CAF A Licence.
- Priority will be given to Coaches who are currently working and living in Ghana and those currently coaching within the elite competitions – Ghana Premier League, Women’s Premier League and the Division One League, Regional Football Associations and national teams.
- Full-time coaching staff to be considered before part-time staff.
Interview and Payment of Fees
- Successful Applicants at this stage, will be interviewed either virtually or physically by a Panel at the GFA Technical Directorate.
- Applicants who have been identified in terms of readiness for the course and future development will also be considered.
- Kindly note that only the 20 successful candidates for the course will be asked to pay the course fees and attend the course for each batch.
HOW IS THE CAF A LICENCE STRUCTURED BY GFA?
Following from the CAF B Licence, Participants will explore the trends in the game, strategies and tactics, systems of play and the Ghana Football DNA principles to develop players that can perform effectively and productively in the 11v11 game. Taking place over 40 days on-site and 120 days supervised internship, all within a one-year period, the course is divided into four residential modules held at Technical Centre of the GFA, Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence (GSCE), Prampram.

The course will focus on in and out of possession principles related to strategies and tactics, the trends of the game, and specific coaching. These content areas are also viewed from a multidisciplinary perspective through the integration of physical, psychological and performance analysis support.
The course will cover:
- Strategies and tactics
- Trends in the game
- Position specific coaching
- Management of players
- Communications
It will also take into consideration:
- In possession phases
- Out of possession phases
- Transitional phases
- Ghana Football DNA principles
During the course, Participants must be actively coaching a group of players who regularly undertake training and play in organised or competitive fixtures in the 11v11 game with the criteria set above. This is crucial, so you can be assessed on the key elements of the course and be eligible to complete the qualification.
Course outcomes:
By the end of the course, you’ll have built on your understanding of:
- The technical and tactical components of the 11v11 game
- The trends of the game as appropriate to the coach’s context
- Positional requirements within different systems of play
- Develop adaptable expertise in context
- You’ll also have an improved understanding of reflective study and leave a more creative and curious coach
What you'll be able to do on completion of this course
Holding this qualification can lead to roles working within the professional game in senior (21+), Ghana Premier League and youth development environments.
And, if you have aspirations of coaching senior teams in the top flights and/or at international level, this course puts you in a good position to apply for the CAF Pro Licence - the highest coaching course in Africa.
