The Homebased Black Stars are on course to qualify for the 2016 African Nations Championship after their 2-1 win in Sunday’s qualifier against the Elephants of Cote D'Ivoire.

Playing at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, coach Maxwell Konadu's side knew they needed to make the home advantage count to avoid pressure in the second leg tie which will be played in Abidjan in a fortnight.

However Ghana conceded first after Sangare Ibrahim hit a rebound to beat Wa All Stars 'Richard Ofori in post for Ghana.

Ghana however equalised with a few minutes to the end of the first half after Asokwa Deportivo forward Joel Fameyeh latched on Daniel Darkwah's clever pass to score for the Home based Black Stars.

The sensational young striker who took Zone two of the Division One League by storm in the just ended season, scored again to give Ghana an advantage after he dummied four Ivorian players before placing the ball into the net.

The home-based Black Stars will go into the second leg with an advantage and will seek to confirm their qualification after the second leg tie.

The winner over two legs between Ghana and Ivory Coast will be eligible for a place at the 4th African Nations Championship taking place in Rwanda early next year.
