League champions, Berekum Chelsea picked their second trophy of the season as they dispatched Asante Kotoko 7-6 on penalties to win the Presidents Cup on Friday in Accra.
The victory seals for Chelsea a hat-trick of wins against Kotoko this season, after beating the Porcupine Warriors back-to-back in the domestic league.
The game played on a holiday to celebrate Ghana’s 51st Republic Day anniversary ended 2-2 in regulation time.
Kotoko jumped into lead in the 19th minute when Alex Asamoah under no pressure tapped in from close range a shot across by Ahmed Toure from the right side of attack.
But just four minutes after the opener, new Chelsea signing, Gladson Awako drew the league champions level before striker Bismark Idan made it 2-1 against Kotoko.
Substitute Fatawu Mohammed equalised for Kotoko in the 60th minute.
With the game tied, it had to be decided during the shoot-outs as Chelsea prevailed 7-6 to lift the 2011 President’s Cup.
