Experience from their debut 2006 World Cup finals is expected to put the Black Stars in a good stead when next year's showpiece kicks off, says Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The Black Stars are one the candidates returning to the biggest showpiece when the 2010 World Cup finals kicks off in South Africa in the summer.

Ghana's debut World Cup performance at the 2006 finals in Germany was the best performance by an Africa side as the Black Stars reached the second round before stumbling out of the competition.

An opening defeat to Italy greeted Ghana's campaign.

However, wins over established sides like the United States and the Czech Republic sounded Ghana out as the in-form team before Brazil applied the brakes in the second round.

For their part, Ghana are no doubt praying for better luck this time around when the showpiece begins next year.

"Ghana is capable of winning the World Cup, we have a very formidable team with most of our boys playing in Europe.

"These are tried and tested players who are able to face any challenge anywhere. At the 2006 finals, Ghana could have gone further in the tournament (they lost in the second round) but for a lack of experience, as well as confidence that we could do it.

"But, having gone through our first World Cup, I think we have enough experience now, which can push us very far and put us in contention for the ultimate title," Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of the FA told BBC Radio 5 live about the Black Stars' chances of lifting the World Cup trophy next summer.
