Asante Kotoko's much publicised international friendly with Everton next month has been called off.

The game which would have formed part of the Toffees pre-season trip to Ghana has been cancelled because of scheduling problems.

Everton were due to play an exhibition game against Asante Kotoko on July 12.

But the tie would have to give way for the scheduling of the domestic league calender which clashes with the planned visit.

Ghana's penultimate league fixtures take place on the weekend of July 12.

"This is extremely disappointing news," Everton chief executive Robert Elstone said.

"The club had invested a lot of time and effort into making this game a reality and were looking forward to making the trip to Kumasi.

"It became clear in the past 24 hours that the opposition would be unable to meet its obligation to play on July 12 and despite looking at other dates and teams in the end it just could not work elsewhere in the schedule.

"We obviously have a responsibility to David Moyes and his players and we are all focused on ensuring they get the best possible preparation ahead of the start of the new Premier League season," he said.
