Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has praised the Football For Humanity projects aimed at getting young girls to chart educational careers.
The initiative seeks to support girls from the Northern regions of Ghana to pursue academics rather than traveling down south to work as head potters at such young ages.
Speaking at presentation of a painting from the organizers, Kwesi Nyantakyi said: “I feel honored to be part of such a noble football cause, to bring the benefit to our disadvantaged girls from the northern part of Ghana.”
Whilst backing the initiative, Kwesi Nyantakyi has also challenged Ghanaians to join hands in curtailing the movement of what he described as ‘our precious’ from the north to the south to do menial jobs.
Yahaya Alhassan, founder of Kunata Voluntary Organization, the NGO championing the projects, welcomed the GFA's support at tackling the social issue confronting the country.
“The projects, when completed, will provide purposeful education for needy girls from the three northern regions and offer a safe return haven for the countless number of girls on our streets” he said.
According to Football For Humanity, their projects aim at bringing together disadvantaged girls from the three northern regions and (the 65,000girls-children already on the street of Accra, Kumasi, Tamale,Tema and Takoradi ) to provide them with purposeful education that will enable them become self-sufficient and economically independent.
