The family of deceased Black Stars Fitness Trainer, Ricky Roy Romeo, paid a courtesy call on President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku at the Headquarters of the Ghana Football Association on Wednesday, May 2, 2024.

Head of Family, David Narh Wussah, led a delegation that included GFA Executive Council members, Mr. Samuel Aboabire and Mr. Eugene Nobel Noel, to inform the President about the untimely death of the young, dynamic and energetic physical trainer.

The late Ricky Roy Romeo passed away on April 28, 2024, after battling a short illness.

President Okraku eulogised the departed former Black Stars physical trainer for his contribution to the national team, in particular, and to Ghana football, in general.

"It is with a heavy heart that I say that we've lost the very dynamic, intelligent, smart and workaholic Roy at this young age," President Okraku said.

"Roy contributed immensely to the Black Stars with his technical knowhow and he will be sorely missed."

"I want to assure you that the Ghana Football Association will work closely with the family to give our brother and friend a befitting farewell. He served Ghana football diligently", President Okraku concluded.

Roy, who became an internet sensation in 2020 for saving the life of a player during a Division One League match between Vision FC and Agbozume Weavers, joined the Black Stars backroom staff in 2021, where he first worked under former coach Milovan Rajevac.

He continued to serve with the national team, supervising the physical training sessions of the Black Stars, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
