FIFA TDS: Brong Ahafo leapfrogs Greater Accra in Group A as Northern Region wins big in final group games of Elite U15 Girls Championship

The Greater Accra Region was given a shock after the Brong Ahafo Region managed a slim win over the Upper West Region to top Group A as the Elite U15 Girls Championship entered the final group stage on match day five.

The match fixtures produced some absolute corkers producing a lot of goals to bring the group stages to a closure on the high.

WESTERN REGION 0:5 NORTHERN REGION

A hat-trick from Azimpaga Mohammed set the tone for the day as Northern Region locked horns with the ladies from the Western Region. Shafawu Zakaria got the fourth goal of the matchday after she headed home an in-swinger in the second half. Western Region struggled to reduce the deficit but Hajara Adams added a fifth to further deepen their woes on the day. Hat-trick Queen, Azimpaga Mohammed from Northern Region was named player of the match in the end.

UPPER EAST REGION 1:2 EASTERN REGION

A valiant effort from Upper East Region looked like they deserved more against a rugged Eastern Region side in the second game of the day. Belinda Kpentey scored a classy goal for Eastern Region but it did not last long before a fine solo effort from Joyce Awane ensured Upper East got the equalizer. Eastern dominated the second half, but it took a strike from Juliana Gyekyewaa to secure their victory. Eastern Region’s Belinda Kpentey went away with the MVP award.

ASHANTI REGION 0:2 GREATER ACCRA REGION

Greater Accra Region bounced back to winning ways from their match day 4 setback. Shelter Akorli put the team in front through a spot kick in the first half before adding a second goal in the second half to complete a brace over the ladies from Ashanti Region. Shelter Akorli from the Greater Accra Region was named player of the match. This game was, however, the exhibition game for the reserve sides that scores no point for any side.

CENTRAL REGION (2) 2-2 (4) VOLTA REGION

Central Region was far from their best on match day five in a game against a crunch Volta Region side. The Volta Region gained firm control in the midfield forcing the Central Region to chase shadows mostly during the game. A goal each from Abigail Ewusiwaa and Beatrice Ati ensured Volta Region took an early 2-0 lead. Maame Akua Osei and Angelina Annan drew level for Central Region to bring the game level in regulation time. Volta Region were relentless and won the penalties 4:2. Abigail Ewusiwaa from Volta Region was adjudged the player of the match.

BRONG AHAFO REGION 1-0 UPPER WEST REGION

It was a nervy affair between the Brong Ahafo Region and the Upper West Region in a game where Brong Ahafo needed a win to top Group B. Captain Benedicta Nketiah Danso pulled the trigger in the second half to give Brong Ahafo the needed push to the top. Gifty Agyeiwaa Snr was adjudged player of the match for her top-notch performance.

The stage is now set for an epic final clash between Group A leaders Brong Ahafo Region and Group B leaders Ashanti Region on Wednesday July 24, 2024 at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence.
