FIFA TDS: Upper West, Eastern cruise to Victory, Greater Accra tastes first defeat in Elite U15 Girls Championship
An entertaining Match Day 4 of the ongoing Elite U15 Girls Championship saw Greater Accra ending their unbeaten run in the final group game, while Upper West cruised to their first victory in the competition. Greater Accra fell to Brong Ahafo on penalties in the top liner of the group after a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time. Ashanti Region, however, maintained their unbeaten run in the competition.
GREATER ACCRA REGION (2)1-1 (4) BRONG AHAFO REGION
Dubbed a final before the final by fans who have followed the competition since its commencement, the Brong Ahafo (BA) U15 team showed resilience against a resolute Greater Accra U15 side. Gloria Ameyaa Adomako put the BA side ahead with a well calculated free kick before Agbleve Vununye equalized to send the game into penalties. The BA U15 team eventually won 4:2 on penalties. Gloria Ameyaa Adomako of the Brong Ahafo Region was named best player of the game following her outstanding performance.
UPPER WEST REGION (4)1-1 (2) CENTRAL REGION
The Upper West U15 side came in strongly in the second match of the day against the Central Region in a keenly fought 1:1 drawn game. Fatima Alhassan scored an early goal for Upper West, who were in control from the onset. Just on the stroke of full time, a foul was committed in the penalty box of Upper West, and Helen Gyasi levelled from the spot for the Central Regional team sending the game into another penalty shot out. The proceedings ended 4:2 in favor of Upper West but Central’s Maame Aku Osei went away with the MVP award.
NORTHERN REGION (3) 1-1 (4) VOLTA REGION
Northern Region and Volta Region battled each other in the third match. Shafawu Zakaria got the opener in the early minutes for Northern Region. Gasu Severene equalized through a spot kick in the second half. A third penalty shootout was ushered in and at the end of proceedings, Volta Region snatched a 4:3 victory. Goalkeeper Bless Atipoe of Volta Region was named player of the match.
ASHANTI REGION 2-0 UPPER EAST REGION
Ashanti Region recorded their third victory on Match Day 4 after defeating Upper East Region 2-0. Skipper for Ashanti Region, Franklina Oyinah put her side in front after latching on to a pass from Hannah Oforiwaa Thompson. Emmanuella Osei added a second to seal victory for her side in regulation time. The win meant that the Ashanti Region remained the only unbeaten side in the competition. Monica Afriyie of Ashanti Region was adjudged the player of the match.
EASTERN REGION 3-0 WESTERN REGION
A brace from Vivian Asare set the tone for an interesting encounter between Eastern Region and the Western Region on Match Day 4. The Eastern side saw much of the ball during the game earning some applause from spectators around the pitch. Emmanuella Yeboah then sealed victory for the Eastern Region with a nice strike as they record a win in four matches. In the end, Vivian Asare was adjudged player of the match.
There will be a break on Monday for the girls to have some rest and recover for the semi-final games that will be played from Tuesday.
