The final funeral rites of the late Dr. Joe Ofori-Atta, a former staff of the National Sports Authority and Black Stars team Doctor will take place at New Tafo in the Eastern region.
This was revealed by the family when they called on the leadership of the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday. The family was led by Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association Kudjoe Fianoo and received by President Simeon-Okraku, Executive Council Member Nana Sarfo Oduro and General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.).
‘’I am saddened by this news and wish to express my deepest condolences to the family on behalf of the football fraternity’’ President Simeon-Okraku said.
‘’I know he contributed his part to the growth and development of the game and deserves to be celebrated and given respect as he goes back to his maker’’.
‘’We will fully participate in the processes leading to the burial and final funeral rites of our departed father. Indeed he was a top professional who went about his work diligently'' he added.
The late Ofori Atta was a sports Doctor who worked with the National Sports Council (Authority) for close to two decades. He was the head of the Stadium Clinic in Accra and worked closely with the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana League Clubs Association.
The late Dr. Ofori-Atta was Black Stars Team Doctor in 1982 when Ghana won the Africa Cup of Nations in Libya. He had stints with the Black Starlets from 1986 – 1992 before becoming a Management Committee Member of the Black Satellites in 1999.
He was 1st Vice Chairman of the Organization of Ghana League Clubs Association (OGLA) now GHALCA and also served on the Executive Council and Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association.
Dr. Joe Ofori-Atta will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at New Tafo, while the final funeral rites take place at ATI HEMAA FIE on Sunday, March 3, 2024.
