The Ghana Football Association has, once again, offered support to the annual Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup.
The Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup is an annual community football tournament which brings together Zongo communities from across the country, and this year's edition, which comes off on Saturday April 12, in Accra, marks a landmark 10th edition of the tournament, named after the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
The very first edition of the tournament, in 2015, was launched at the GFA headquarters, and since then, the Association has been a traditional partner of the event, supporting with logistics and match officials.
For the landmark 10th edition, the GFA is continuing with its traditional support, General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo has confirmed.
"This is part of the GFA's corporate social responsibility, and supporting such community football tournament reflects our commitment to supporting communities and football at all levels," General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo said.
"We are happy to join the Zongo community, once again, to bring the youth together, celebrate the successful end of Ramadan and also honour His Eminence, the National Chief Imam," the General Secretary added.
The draw for the 10th edition was held in Accra on Monday April 7, with Nima scheduled to play Sabon Zongo, in a mouthwatering opening match.
The 10th edition will feature 15 Zongo communities, instead of the usual 32, selected to participate, to reflect the history of the competition.
The 15 teams are made up defending and three-time champions, Ashaiman, former champions; Madina, Nima, Mamobi and Kasoa.
The rest of the participating teams are made up of founding members of the tournament, as well as teams, or communities that have excelled in the past 9 editions.
For the first time, the tournament will be played at the Kawokudi Park, Kanda, Accra, instead of its traditional venue, the Fadama Park, near the Chief Imam's residence.
General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo will grace the grand finale on Saturday.
Dignitaries expected to attend include the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, as well as a number of high-profile dignitaries from the Zongo and football community.
