The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has successfully concluded the first batch of its Free License D coaching course in the Ashanti Region. The course, which is part of the GFA’s strategic plan to enhance grassroots football coaching, took place over an intensive 5-day period and saw the participation of 30 coaches selected from juvenile (colts) clubs across the region.
As the first region among the ten football regions in Ghana, Ashanti Region had the honour of launching this nationwide coaching initiative. The course was offered free of charge to all participants, with the full cost covered by the GFA. Upon successful completion, all participants were awarded certificates, signifying their readiness to contribute to the development of youth football.
The GFA's ambitious goal is to train 900 coaches over a three-year period, aiming to address and rectify fundamental issues in grassroots coaching. This initiative is a critical component of the GFA’s broader strategy to strengthen the foundation of football in Ghana by equipping coaches with the necessary skills and knowledge.
Addressing the participants on behalf of GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, JoeSalaam Abubakar, Vice Chairman of the National Juvenile Committee, praised the coaches for their dedication and commitment. He encouraged them to leverage social media and other resources to continue their professional development and to enhance their coaching methods.
“On behalf of our hardworking President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, I congratulate all of you for this important achievement.
“It’s yet another significant moment in the history of Ghana football. You must first of all, count yourselves lucky for being the first batch of coaches enrolled onto this free License D Coaching Course of the GFA. We have 270 more to train for free this year and in 3 years, the FA will train 900 coaches at this level for free,” he noted.
“This is a program aimed at changing the coaching narrative at the grassroots level and we believe that your will be the torchbearers."

The initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the future of Ghanaian football, beginning with the youth and their coaches.
