The GFA Foundation has partnered the Ghana Tourism Authority to celebrate World Blood Donor Day by organizing a Blood Donation campaign.

The exercise will take place on Thursday, June ,22  2023 simultaneously at both the Accra Metropolitan Assembly office and the car park of the Ghana Tourism Authority head office at Ridge.

The Blood Donation campaign is part of activities marking the 50th anniversary milestone of the Ghana Tourism Authority. For the GFA Foundation, the exercise is part of its activities for the year and a major plank of the GFA Employee Volunteer programme.

Every year, the day is celebrated by the United Nations globally to recognize and thank voluntary blood donors around the world for their gift of blood. This year’s edition has the slogan “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”.

The two entities believe there is an urgent need to stock safe, adequate efficacious blood and blood products in blood banks in all hospitals across the country to support medical and surgical procedures such as treatment of complications during pregnancy and childbirth and severe anaemia in children.

“Blood has no alternatives unlike medicine so when you donate blood, you donate life”, Mr. Jones Nelson, Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority intimated.

The Director of the GFA Foundation, Malcolm Frazier Appeadu admonished that “non-state and state actors need to collaborate effectively and regularly to achieve the universal access to safe blood transfusion”.

He called on the general public especially people in the tourism industry, fans and people within the football ecosystem, market women, traders, students, etc. to participate massively in the Blood Donation campaign on the stated date.
