The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has honoured a policeman and called on the authorities to promote him for his bravery and dedication.

ASP Avornyoh was presented with a plague as well as a gift of One Thousand Ghana Cedis for courageousness in preventing hooligans from lynching a referee during a match.

ASP Hilarious Avornyoh vigilantly protected referee Kyeremanteng when he was attacked by fans of Ebusua Dwarfs during a league match in March.

The policeman defied the missiles being thrown at the referee and used his body as a shield against the objects being thrown at the match official during Dwarfs match against Aduana Stars in Cape Coast.

He suffered serious injuries while protecting the referee, who was also hospitalized in the wake of the attack by the hooligans.

A member of congress Mohammed Alhassan of Medeama Football Club asked the GFA to urge the Police Administration to promote ASP Avornyoh for his bravery and dedication.

The Acting GFA General Secretary Emmanuel Gyimah confirmed that the federation has already written to the authorities to recommend the policeman for promotion.

Sports Minister Hon. Kofi Humado presented the plague and cash to ASP Avornyoh, who dedicated the award to the people of Ghana.
