GFA President meets GARFA EXCO members on grassroots football developments

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku has met Executive Committee members of the Greater Accra Football Association (GARFA) to discuss various grassroots developmental projects.

The meeting which was held on Friday, March 1, 2024 was also to share the GFA President's "fixing the fundamentals" vision with leadership of GARFA.

Issues discussed at the meeting include, the various interventions for the Regional Football Associations, the Catch Them Young refereeing policy, support for Colts football, Women’s Division One League and other programs at the regional level.

The GFA President also touched on the models rolled out since his tenure with emphasizes on initiatives and various logistics and financial support provided to the Regional Football Association including the supply of footballs for the regional teams, allowance for the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the regional Football Associations, and support systems and subvention for Referees managers across the 10 football regions.

Other key areas in the discussion included, coaching education which has provided access to coaches to acquire Licences. He cited the need to identify and encourage young talents with refereeing potentials to be enrolled in the Catch-Them-Young referee policy to be fully scouted and trained as referees.

At the meeting, the GFA President also outlined the roles GARFA can playing in unearthing talents from grassroots football.

As earlier promised, the RFA were informed that they will be provided with pick up trucks to aide their work as well as live coverage of Regional Division 2 middle leagues.

Mr Daasebre Adu Asare was also introduced to Regional Executives as the GFA's newly appointed Regional Coordinator to liaise with various regional associations.

GARFA Chairman Samuel Aboabire thanked the President for the visit and expressed appreciation for the various logistics that have been provided to clubs at the regional level.

He also lauded the GFA for the salary initiative for the regional executives and called for the GFA to assist in resolving petitions sent by two District chairmen.

Members of the Executive Council also called on the GFA  to support their plea for  a reduction in the cost of renting AstroTurf pitches and also called for more Coaching license courses for grassroots coaches.

GFA Executive Council member Eugene Nobel Noel was also present at the meeting.
