A Ghana Football Association (GFA) delegation, led by its acting boss Fred Crentsil, signed a book of condolence in memory of the late Ghana President Professor J.E.A Mills at the State House in Accra on Tuesday.

Chief executives and representatives of various football clubs in the country including giants Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Ashantigold, Medeama, Dwarfs, New Edubiase and many others were represented.

The Black Stars technical team was represented by e assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.

The acting GFA president paid a glowing tribute to the late leader of the country, describing him as a “sports and a football man” and a great loss to the GFA .

“He was a sportsman and football man. He looked after the national team very well,” Crentsil said.

“Whenever we went there (Castle) to defend the budget for the national teams, he was always there personally to look at it and approve it.”

Crentsil recounted how the late President prayed with the Black Stars in the dressing room before their South Africa 2010 Fifa World Cup match with the USA.

“He prayed with the team in the dressing room and said that we would win; lo and behold we won that match,” the acting GFA boss said.

Mr Crentsil revealed that the Executive Committee of the FA will soon meet to deliberate on what can be done in honour of the late president.

The late President Mills served his country diligently in football as he was once the chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee and also a board chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak.

Crentsil is acting as the GFA boss in the absence of Kwesi Nyantakyi who is working for FIFA at the Olympic Games in London.
