In a significant step towards enabling environmental sustainability, staff from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra participated in a tree-planting exercise at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence (GSCE) in Prampram on Friday. This event was organized as part of the nationwide Green Ghana Campaign and was under the direction and initiative of the GFA Foundation.

The initiative saw a very good turnout, with staff from the GFA Headquarters and the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence joining forces. They were accompanied by technical instructors from FIFA and referee instructors from the GFA, demonstrating a unified effort towards promoting environmental conservation.

A notable aspect of the event was the participation of 35 Catch Them Young Referees, who are currently undergoing training in the FIFA Referees Young Talent Course. Their involvement underscored the importance of integrating environmental awareness into the development of future football officials.

Approximately one hundred (100) plants were carefully planted during the exercise, contributing to the overarching goal of the Green Ghana Campaign to enhance the country's forest cover and promote ecological balance. The variety of trees planted is expected to enrich the biodiversity of the area surrounding the soccer center.

Speaking at the event, Director of the GFA Foundation, Malcolm Frazier Appeadu expressed his appreciation for the collective effort and the importance of such initiatives.

"The Green Ghana Campaign is a vital initiative for our nation, and it is inspiring to see the football community actively participate in this cause. Planting trees is a powerful way to contribute to a sustainable future, and I am proud of everyone who took part today, and also grateful for your participation," he stated.

Director of the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence Winifred Mawudeku and her deputy David Alifoe were key participants in the project ensuring the trees were planted at the right places.

The Green Ghana Campaign, launched by the government, aims to plant millions of trees across the country. This campaign has received widespread support from various sectors, including sports, as organizations and individuals recognize the critical need for environmental preservation.

The GFA's involvement in the Green Ghana Campaign highlights the Association's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. By including young Referees and technical instructors in the tree-planting exercise, the GFA not only supports environmental sustainability but also fosters a sense of environmental stewardship among the next generation of football leaders.

The tree-planting exercise at Prampram is just one of many activities planned under the Green Ghana Campaign. As these trees grow, they will serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and the positive role that sports organizations can play in promoting sustainable practices.
