Ghana were off to a disappointing start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after conceding late to lose 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday.

The Black Stars went into the game looking to continue with their winning streak but were dealt a huge blow few seconds to end the game after substitute Felício Mendes João Milson popped up to smash home from close range to his side the points. The Black Stars created the majority of the chances, but were undone in the third minute of stoppage time.

Jordan Ayew led Ghana's attack with Antoine Semenyo and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku operating on the wings and backed by Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey and Elisha Owusu in midfield.

Alidu Seidu played at left back while Tariq Lamptey took charge of the right back position as Mohammed Salisu and Abdul Mumin paired in central defense.

Ghana made a bright start as Antoine Semenyo let fly with a shot that drifted just wide of the goal on five minutes.

Angola goalkeeper Neblu made the first noteworthy save of the evening after Mohammed Kudus unleashed a ferocious shot on target in the 36th minute and he was called into action again early in the second half to palm Antoine Semenyo’s effort behind for a corner in the 58th minute.

The defense then came to his rescue in the 77th minute as Jordan Ayew saw his shot blocked after beating the goalkeeper and Kudus was also denied eight minutes later when his goal-bound attempt deflected behind for a corner.

Ghana kept piling the pressure in search of the match winner until substitute Milson popped up in added time with the winning goal after Abdul Mumin failed to clear his lines following a miss kick.

Otto Addo later introduced Joseph Paintsil, Majeed Ashimeru and Inaki Williams in search of the equaliser but the changes made a little impact as Angola held for their first win of the qualifiers.

The defeat hands Ghana their first home loss in 24-years at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and will need a win over Niger on Monday to get their campaign back on track as Angola host Sudan in the other Group F game.
