Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has reiterated the sense of honour he feels leading the Black Stars out at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Gyan, who endured a frustrating campaign last year when he missed a penalty in the semi-final to eventual winners, Zambia, wants a successful run, starting with the Group B opener against DR Congo on Sunday.
“I am happy to part of the team and lead and everyone is as well but I must say we are really prepared,” said Gyan.
“The confidence level is high and all the players are ready.”
The Black Stars might be ready as the captain put it but the expectation back home is nothing other than the winning the title. A view not lost on Gyan.
“That is what the people are expecting back home. We believe we can win.”
The striker who is making his fourth consecutive appearance at the Nations Cup is is refusing to let the absence of certain players be considered as a possible excuse for failure.
Gyan genuinely believes the Black Stars possess the quality to compete.
“The quality we have, I don't doubt. We don't have fear. We have quality players.”
