Ghana will meet France in a historic last four clash at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after beating Japan 1-0 on Friday in the quarter-finals.

A second half goal scored by Sherifatu Sumaila secured the Black Maidens progress as the three-time finalist reach the last four stage for the first time.

Ghana, who finished runners-up in the group stage denied the free scoring Japanese a goal for the first time at the competition as they ended the Asian sides clean sheet of three successive matches.

In a game which produced more scoring opportunities, the 16-year-old's goal which came just after the interval proved to be the winner though the Japanese goalkeeper Hirao, who pulled some good saves in the first half was at fault for letting the tame effort through her legs.

Though the goalkeeping was not good, at the end, Victoria Agyei proved very capable for Ghana, dealing with the efforts by the Japanese.

A meeting against France who stunned Nigeria in the other quarter-final match is up next for Didi Dramani's team on Tuesday.
