Ghana suffered their first defeat since winning bronze at the Africa Nations Cup in a friendly against Mexico on Wednesday night.

A late revival by Mexico earned them a 2-1 win over the Black Stars.

Pavel Pardo’s winner from a spot kick with four minutes left to play earned the Aztec Warriors the win. Earlier, Carlos Salcido’s equaliser to Michael Essien’s opener handed the Mexicans the win at Premiership side Fulham’s Craven Cottage in London.

Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Andre Ayew and Anthony Annan all went close to a second for Ghana but failed to find the back of the net for the Black Stars.

The game saw Harrison Afful lasting the entire game while debutant Eric Bekoe showed some good touches.

However it is a game, Liberty Professionals goalkeeper Patrick Antwi would want to forget in a hurry.

Coming on as a second half substitute for Richard Kingson, his senior team debut didn’t go according to plan after his howler in clearing Essien’s back pass gifted the Mexicans the equaliser.

For Claude Le Roy, this was always going to be a much sterner examination as he offered opportunities to some new players.

After a goalless first half which Ghana hardly created enough chances, the second period was going to be the defining moment of the game.

And Le Roy’s review of his team's first-half performance saw him effect three substitutions - with Andre Ayew, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Patrick Antwi introduced for Laryea Kingston, Haminu Draman and Richard Kingson.

The last substitution saw Eric Bekoe come on for Junior Agogo.

Michael Essien put Ghana in the lead in the 55th minute when he struck a grounder which hit the inside of the upright before hitting the back of the net for the opener.

However, Carlos Salcido’s got the equaliser after 22 minutes when the Mexican easily slotted in after Ghana’s keeper, Patrick Antwi’s attempt to dribble him after receiving a back pass failed.

Minutes later, Antwi was called upon to make a brilliant save.

As the game approached the final moments, Ghana conceded a penalty when Eric Addo fouled an opponent.

Mexican captain, Pavel Pardo stepped up to drive in the winner from the spot kick.

Ghana pushed for the equaliser but had calls for a penalty turned down by English referee, Rob Styles and that summed up the night’s action.
