Ghana records best World Cup ranking

Fifa has confirmed Ghana's performance at the 2010 World Cup finals as the 7th best on the overall standings.

Ghana, making its second consecutive appearance at the world stage reached the quarter-finals in South Africa and were the best side from the host continent.

The governing body's post-tournament rankings placed the Black Stars 7th out of the 32 teams following their exit in the last eight through the penalty lottery to Uruguay.

Of the beaten quarter-finalists, Argentina were fifth, Brazil sixth, Ghana seventh and Paraguay eighth.

Winners Spain were top followed by the Netherlands, Germany and Uruguay.

Fifa's rankings take into account group stage results, progress in the competition and the quality of opposition.
