The Ghana Schools U15 boys beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in the third-place match at the WAFU B African Schools Football Championship, which concluded on Saturday November 23, 2024, in Niamey, Niger.
Cyril Acquah Hagan scored the only goal of the match from the spot kick to hand the Ghanaians victory at the FeniFoot Technical Centre.
The Ghanaian teenagers finished in third place after drawing 1-1 with Burkina Faso and thrashing Niger 5-0 in the group stage.
However, they lost 1-0 to Cote D'voire in the semi-final to settle for bronze in the third edition of the WAFU B African Schools Football Championship, held in Niamey.
Ghana's Cyril Acquah Hagan won the Goal King Award after scoring three goals during the Championship.
WAFU B President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku presented the bronze medals to the players and officials of the teams at the end of the Championship.
A total of six WAFU B nations participated in both the boys and girls divisions of the tournament, where Cote D'voire have been crowned champions of the zone in the Boys Division after they beat Benin 4-3 on penalties in the final to secured a place at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals set to take place in 2025.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship is in line with CAF’s indicated intent to develop successive generations of African football stars from the grassroots stage so as to provide them with a strong foundation for potential success in the foreseeable future.
