Ghana are one step closer to continental glory after beating hosts, Angola 1-0 to reach the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup.
The Black Stars went in front in the 16th minute when striker Asamoah Gyan applied the finishing touch following a great through ball from the Ghana half by Kwadwo Asamoah at the November 11 Stadium in Luanda on Sunday.
A crunch game saw Ghana pick up the first yellow card under just a minute as Andre Ayew was booked by referee Mohamed Benouza.
The hosts driven by the home support pushed for the opener as they dominated the early stages.
Angola committed more men forward and were caught on the break by Ghana resulting in the opening goal which happened to be the game's winner.
After winning possession, Kwadwo Asamoah picked up a pass and delivered a pass into the Angolan half.
Gyan, run onto the pass, had a good first touch and poked the ball to the far corner past goalkeeper Carlos Fernandes to register his second of the competition.
The hosts could have drawn level but failed to take advantage before the break as Flavio and Gilberto failed to find target from close range.
The second half saw chances few though Ghana were put under pressure with the Angolans floating most of the balls into the area with Isaac Vorsah and Lee Addy having to deal with the aerial threats.
Gyan was taken off for Mathew Amoah as the Black Stars reeled under pressure.
The nerve-wracking finish to the game saw Milovan Rajevac introduce Eric Addo for Haminu Draman and Ibrahim Ayew for Andre.
Yet still, the hosts continued to pile the pressure but Ghana kept their shape to thwart their efforts.
Ghana picked up two more yellow cards with Mathew Amoah and Opoku Agyemang entering the referee’s books.
The last few minutes saw Isaac Vorsah scooping a goal bound ball after Richard Kingson had collided with Kali.
A Ghana break saw Opoku Agyemang racing towards goal and with goalkeeper Fernandes out,Agyemang’s final shoot was blocked by a defender.
The Black Stars will play the winner of the Zambia-Nigeria game which will be played later on Monday in the semi-finals.
