Head Coach Daniel Neequaye Kotey has expressed confidence in Ghana's Black Sharks ahead of the 2024 TotalEnergies Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Hurghada, Egypt. The team held their official training session at the Hurghada Beach Soccer Arena on Thursday, ahead of their opening match against hosts Egypt on Saturday.

In an interview with ghanafa.org, Coach Kotey shared his thoughts:

On Pre-Tournament Preparation

We're well-prepared and not intimidated by any team. We've played against some of them before, including Egypt last year. Our training in Keta has been fruitful, and we're ready for the challenge.

On Tournament Expectations

Despite having new players, we have a solid foundation with four experienced players. The team has improved tactically and discipline wise. We're not afraid of anyone, and we're looking to surprise the favorites. Tanzania is an unknown quantity, but we're watching their games.

On Goalkeeping and Pressure

Goalkeeping has been a concern in the past, but our current goalkeeper, Robert, is exceptional and can even score goals. We're not under pressure playing Egypt, having beaten them 7-5 in Accra last year.

On Players to Watch

Ghanaians should look out for Robert, our goalkeeper, and Awunisi, who excelled against Egypt in last year's qualifiers. Awulu is also a key player.

On Team Focus and Aspirations

Our primary goal is to qualify for the Beach Soccer World Cup. We're taking it one game at a time, but our focus is clear.

On Support

We urge Ghanaians to support us. We're here to surprise the favorites and make Ghana proud. We welcome all Ghanaians in Egypt to come and cheer us on.

The Black Sharks face Egypt on Saturday, October 19, at 4:30 pm, followed by matches against Morocco and Tanzania in Group A.
