A stakeholder engagement has successfully been held for the Girls4Goals initiative at Adaklu Senior High School and Shia Senior High Technical School in the Volta Region. The engagement aimed to secure the support of these schools in the Adaklu District and Ho Municipality for the program, which seeks to empower young girls through sports-based leadership development.

Girls4Goals is a nine-month initiative designed to promote gender equality through sports, education, and healthy lifestyles. The project is being implemented across three districts and municipalities in the Volta Region—Adaklu District, Keta Municipality, and Ho Municipality.

The engagement commenced at Adaklu Senior High School, where the GFA team introduced the project to the school authorities. Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, leader of the FA delegation, outlined the core components of the program, which include life skills education, football training, community engagement, and mentorship. He emphasized that these elements would help create confident and empowered young girls who could advocate for positive change in their communities.

Adaklu SHS Headmaster, Mr. Seth K. Amewor, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative and assured the team of the school's commitment. However, he highlighted some challenges, including funding, logistics, and equipment constraints, which hinder the organization of sporting activities.

At Shia Senior High Technical School, Headmaster Mr. Michael Akidzeble welcomed the project and affirmed the school’s readiness to fully participate. During an interactive forum, female students and teachers engaged in discussions on various topics, including career opportunities in football, transitioning from school football to the national teams, balancing academics with sports, managing injuries, and overcoming societal stereotypes that label football as a male-dominated sport.

Among the key school authorities present at the engagement in Adaklu SHS were Assistant Headmasters Victor Ametewee (Administration) and Owusu Mordzifa (Academics), along with the school’s Physical Education Master. At Shia Senior High Technical School, the team interacted with Senior Housemaster Mr. Wisdom Nukpeza and Mr. Abu.

The GFA’s Girls4Goals Team included Kwame Koramoah and James Odartey Lamptey. The project is being implemented in collaboration with FIFA, GIZ, and La Guilde.

This initiative marks a significant step toward fostering gender equality and empowering young girls through football and education in Ghana.
