The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has sent a goodwill message to the Black Meteors of Ghana as they start their final qualification journey to the Paris Olympic Games.
The National U-23 team will begin their AFCON campaign against Congo on Sunday, June 25,2023.
In order to secure a ticket to the summer Olympics, Ghana must reach the final stages of the African U-23 Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In a statement released on Friday, June 23, the team has been assured of the GOC's support urging them to break the 19 years jinx.
The statement further mentioned that:
"On behalf of the Board, Executives and Sports Federation Heads, I wish you all the luck to break the jinx that has denied football an appearance in almost two decades.
The Black Meteors are in group alongside host nation Morocco, Congo and Guinea. The team will begin their campaign against Congo on Sunday June 25, 2023.
The finalists and third-place playoff winner of this tournament will qualify for the 2024 Summer.
Olympic men's football tournament in Paris while the 4th-placed team will play the AFC-CAF playoff to decide the final slot at the Olympics” the statement read.
Sunday’s match between Ghana and Congo will kick off at 4pm (3pm GMT).
