Guinness Ghana PLC, producers of Malta Guinness, in partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has organised a capacity-building workshop at the Guinness House for selected players from all clubs in the just-ended 2023–24 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season.

The one-day workshop was aimed at providing a platform and equipping the players with the requisite knowledge and skills in personal branding, social media usage, and how to plan their future careers after retirement.

The Malta Guinness team was led by Marketing Manager Dinah Adu-Asare, who delivered the welcome address, Frank Foli, Abena N. Chrappah, and Lynnessa Darko.

Addressing participants, former Black Queen’s player and the current Head Coach of the national women’s U-23 side, Mrs. Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo, emphasised the need for players to plan their lives and career pathways so they don’t find themselves wanting in the near future.

She also highlighted the importance of saving and investing in order to live a comfortable life after retirement while advising them to be keen on education, coaching, and refereeing courses as some career pathways.

Head of Strategy and Public Relations at the GFA, Mr. Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, also took participants through the public speaking session and stressed its relevance.

Digital marketing expert, Ms. Abena N. Chrappah, also lectures on the need for players to identify their skills, identity, core values, and personality traits to help brand themselves and to take advantage of social media to market themselves to the general public.

Also present at the event were former players Adjoa Bayor, Anita Wiredu-Mintah, Romanatu Tahiru, and Naomi Fainusatu, who also shared their life experiences after football with the participants.

Head of Business Development and International Relations, Janice Odonkor, in her closing remarks, emphasised the GFA’s readiness to strengthen its relationship with Malta Guinness and also encouraged participants to put to use the knowledge acquired.

Participants were also taken on a brewery tour and taken through the process of producing Malta Guinness before a brief certification ceremony was held to present certificates of participation.

The GFA women’s football desk was also heavily represented by Barbara Yankah, Samira Ghartey, Matilda Dimedo, Zainab Abubakar Bamba, Caroline Anyanful, Gloria Omari-Wiafe, and Justina Adoctor.

The capacity-building workshop organised by Malta Guinness Ghana is in line with their vision to create a “World of Good” and to champion the course of women in football.
