John Mensah is backing Black Stars colleague and new club mate at Rennes, Asamoah Gyan to thrive in French football.

Gyan became a Rennes player last Friday after agreeing a switch from Udinese in Italy.

The 22-year old signed a four year deal to join his international teammate John Mensah in France.

John Mensah, who also made the switch from Italy to France after stints with Bologna, Chievo and Modena expects Gyan to make an impression in the French Ligue 1.

“He had his problems in Italy but France will suit his style and I am sure he will settle in early,” Mensah who captains Rennes said.

Meanwhile, former Ghana captain, Abedi Ayew Pele, who also played in both the French and Italian leagues during his career feels Gyan can take the same path but says the Ghana striker must improve his goal scoring skills.

“His style will fit in nicely with France. He is talented, knows how to keep the ball and is skilful which is what the French admire. There he can express himself but he must have the killer instinct in front of goal if he wants to make a name for himself.”
