The African Cup of Nations has proven to be a tournament where players sometimes struggle to replicate their domestic club form.

Beginning January 10, the best of Africa's talents would assemble in Angola to lead their respective national sides with the hope of attaining glory.

For Ghana's Asamoah Gyan, he needs to reproduce his fine scoring form in the French Lique 1 for Rennes when the Black Stars get their campaign underway in Group B.

Gyan, endured a difficult Nations Cup debut on home soil two years ago but he is hoping to turn things around after having managed to stay fit this season and scored 8 goals so far in the domestic league.

"My form this season has been great and I hope it continues at the Nations Cup where the level is big for me. I have the confidence and I believe it's possible," the Black Stars striker said.

However, on a level where the best sometimes fail to shine, Gyan is keeping his confidence as he focuses on the CAN.

"But I must admit that playing in Africa is quite different from Europe and I need to keep my focus and not to be over-confident.

"This tournament will be great and in a world cup year, everybody will like to play well so you can't do nothing but your best," the Black Stars striker said.

Togo are Ghana's opening opponents on 11 January in Group B before games against Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
