Asamoah Gyan accepts that he would always be under scrutiny as Sunderland's record signing.

But the Ghana striker says does not feel under any extra pressure as he is only committed to repaying the faith shown in him by Black Cats manager Steve Bruce.

Gyan joined the Black Cats from Rennes over the summer for a fee of £13million amid high expectations.

However he has adapted well to the Premier League, scoring eight goals to date. And he accepts there will always be critics waiting to say that he is not worth what Sunderland paid.

He said: "I like to be myself. I play my game. The price tag, the manager just saw that in me.

"He wanted to bring me at all costs to Sunderland and finally, they made a deal.

"It's a challenge for me. It shows the quality they have seen in me, so I am happy to have signed.

"Football is not about talking, it is demonstrated on the field. I don't believe in talking too much."
