Black Starlets captain Joseph Narbi has been named Man of the Match following his outstanding performance in Ghana’s 3-1 victory over South Africa in the final Group D game of the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The influential skipper led by example as the Black Starlets produced a spirited display to overcome the South Africans in a crucial encounter at the continental championship.

Narbi was the hero of the evening after converting two first-half penalties to put Ghana firmly in control of the contest. The skipper showed great composure and confidence from the spot on both occasions, expertly dispatching his efforts beyond the South African goalkeeper.

His first goal came after Abdul Latif Wunzalgu was brought down inside the penalty area following a dangerous attacking move by the Black Starlets.

Narbi stepped up again later in the half after another handball incident in the penalty box, calmly converting Ghana’s second penalty of the game to double the advantage for the Black Starlets.

Beyond his goals, the captain delivered a commanding performance in midfield, providing leadership, energy, and composure throughout the match as Ghana battled for victory.

The Black Starlets eventually secured a 3-1 win, with substitute Augustine Appiah adding the third goal after South Africa had reduced the deficit in the second half.

Narbi’s leadership and decisive contributions played a key role in Ghana’s victory, earning him deserved recognition as the standout player of the match.

Despite the impressive win, the Black Starlets narrowly missed out on second place in the group after Algeria edged Ghana through the drawing of lots following identical records between the two teams.

The Black Starlets, however, remain focused on keeping their FIFA U17 World Cup qualification hopes alive as the tournament progresses.
