KGL U17 Colts: Eastern Region win on penalties to set up Final against Western Region

Eastern Region secured a spot in the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship Final by defeating Volta Region 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regulation time on Tuesday August 6, 2024.

They will face Western Region, who overcame Northern Region in the other semi-final game at the talent identification Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.

In a highly competitive match, the two teams failed to break down each other as they played out a pulsating goalless drawn game at the GFA technical centre to take the match to the lottery of penalty shootout.

Aglago George, Tsey Lucky and Tengey Bismarck missed their spot kicks as Eastern Region secured qualification to their first ever final.

By their feat, Eastern Region, which finished in fourth position last year in Kumasi, will square off with Western Region in a repeat of their Group B clash.

Western Region will be aiming for revenge in the Final after they lost 1-0 to Eastern Region in their Group B clash.

Volta Region goalkeeper Bless Amerdorme was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) after making several incredible saves in the match.

A tasty clash awaits on Thursday August 8, 2024 when the two teams face off again for the second time in the famous Championship.

Volta Region will meet Northern Region in the third-placed match on Thursday morning before the finals to bring the curtain down on the fourth edition of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship.

The championship serves as a platform for showcasing emerging players and fostering their development. This U-17 tournament is a key component of the GFA’s broader strategy of talent identification and nurturing of young football talents across Ghana.

The matches of the Championships are being telecast live to various platforms including the GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The ten Regional Football Associations have selected the best U17 players from their Colts competitions to represent their regions in the Championship which is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
