KGL U17 Colts: Northern and Volta square off in third-place match

Northern Region and Volta Region will face off in the third place match at the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship on Thursday August 8, 2024.

The two teams will get the chance to write a happy ending of their own as they clash in their final match at the talent identification Championship at the GFA technical centre.

It is also a chance to leave a lasting impression on the wider Ghanaian public in a Championship which has highlighted several promising talents this year.

They will clash in the first match of the day on Thursday August 8, 2024. Kick off 10am local time.

Northern Region recovered from a 4-0 defeat against Brong Ahafo to thrash Ashanti Region 4-1. They subsequently beat Volta Region 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time before overcoming Central Region 2-1 to top Group A.

However, they lost 3-1 to Western Region in the semi-finals to set up their final match in the Championship against Volta Region.

Volta Region started off their campaign in a blistering fashion, blowing away Central Region 3-0, beat Ashanti Region 2-0 before losing 5-4 on penalties to Northern Region after the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in regulation time. They also lost 1-o to Brong Ahafo to finish second in Group A.

But they lost 3-1 on penalties to Eastern Region after a goalless draw in regulation time in the semi-finals.

Northern Region poster boy Musah Ahmed Sharafadeen, who is in contention for the top scorers award with five goals, is available for selection. The talented forward has won Most Valuable Player twice prior to Thursday's third place match.

The likes of Abubakar Salim, Salifu Fuseini, Abubakar Ibrahim, Siisu Zakaria, Ibrahim Abdul Mugis, Nyaaba Thomas and Abdallah Abdul Yasir are all available for the game.

Volta Region can rely on youngsters Aglago George, Gidiglo Bless, Tengey Bismarck, Amin Mohammed, Agbomazi Godwin, Prince Asiedu, Tabo Kennedy and captain Setsoafia Junior Akwetey.

The match will be broadcast live on various platforms including the GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The famous Championship is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
