KGL U17 Colts: Upper East triumph over Greater Accra, Eastern pip Upper West Region

Aduko Michael's first half strike was enough for Upper East Region as they grind out a 1-0 win over Greater Accra Region in a thrilling opening Group B match of the ongoing KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship on Saturday July 27, 2024.

Aduko slotted home from a rebound with a beauty to beat goalkeeper Clement Osuroade Debrah in the 15th minute to separate the two teams at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

The two teams impressed, showed grit, resilience and  promising display in the talent identification hunt in the youth Championship.

Greater Accra Region's Naff Sherif was shown a straight red card following a strong challenge on Upper East goalkeeper Mensah Carlos.

While Greater Accra's dream of winning their opening match fell short, an individual player shone brightly throughout the match.

Upper East goalkeeper, Mensah Carlos, who pulled off impressive saves throughout the 90 minutes, deservedly clinched the Most Valuable Player Award.

In the second Group B match, Eastern Region  also recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Upper West Region in a highly entertaining match to conclude Match Day 2.

Kwao Meshack scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute to secure victory for Eastern Region in their first match of the Championship.

Eastern Region's Amos Opoku was adjudged Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The matches of the Championships is being telecast live to various platforms including the GFA App, GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The ten Regional Football Associations have selected the best U17 players from their Colts competitions to represent their regions in this year's edition.

The 12-day Championship, aimed at identifying, training and developing young talented teenagers for Ghana's youth national teams, runs till Thursday August 8, 2024.
