KGL U17 Colts: Upper East triumph over Upper West; Western Region beat Greater Accra on penalties
Upper East Region delivered a superb performance to beat Upper West Region 2-0 to return to winning ways on Match day 6 of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship at Prampram on Wednesday July 31, 2024.
Analiya Rashid and Aniah Jacob climbed off the bench to score in the 43rd and 88th minute respectively to secure the deserved victory for Upper East in Wednesday's second Group B match at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence .
Upper East Region, which has five players from the GFA Elite Academy, are back on track after losing 1-0 the Greater Accra Region in their last match.
Upper West Region, winless in two games, will hope to make amends in their remaining two matches in the Group.
Centre-back David Okyere of Upper East Region was adjudged the Most Valuable Player after a solid performance.
Western Region beat Greater Accra Region 5-4 on penalties after the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in Wednesday's other match.
Midfielder Emmanuel Amarada scored from the spot to give Greater Accra Region the lead before Stephen Cobbinah pulled parity in the 88th minute.
Western Region eventually won the tie, beating their opponents 5-4 on penalties.
Cobbinah, who impressed in attack, was crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The Championship fixtures on Thursday August 1, 2024, will see Central Region battling it out with Ashanti Region at 10am local time before Northern Region Region take on Volta Region at 14:00GMT (2pm local time).
The matches of the Championships are being telecast live to various platforms including the GFA App, GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.
The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.
The ten Regional Football Associations have selected the best U17 players from their Colts competitions to represent their regions in the Championship which is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
