Laryea Kingston has claimed Hearts of Oak players are "ready to do everything" that coach of the side, C.K. Akunnor wants as they go into the 'Super Clash' against rivals Asante Kotoko.
The Phobians are second on the standings for now with a 10-point gap separating them from Kotoko ahead of their meeting on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Glo Premier League.
Hearts could lose their second-place even before their meeting with Kotoko if AshantiGold wins against champions, Berekum Chelsea on Thursday. But a match against Kotoko always serves as an added boost.
Sunday's 3-0 win over Wa All Stars in Accra, was the second consecutive win under Akunnor in three games for the Phobians, and that makes this campaign one of the most sweet for Kingston and his team-mates as they prepare to meet Kotoko.
Although Kotoko are leading and in good form, Kingston believes Akunnor's appointment has had a positive effect on the team since taking over Serbian Nebojsa Vicicevic.
“It is important for the coach to have confidence in the players and the players also having confidence in him,” Kingston told Accra-based Radio XYZ.
“All the players have confidence in the team since he joined us and the players are enjoying his training sessions.”
With their desire to work for Akunnor on the high, a win over Kotoko would be a staggering achievement as Hearts of Oak attempt to close the gap on their rivals.
“And we are getting to know him well and him also knowing the players so why not, we as players are ready to do everything he wants for the team.”
