Legon Cities will host champions Asante Kotoko at the El Wak sports stadium on Matchday 24 of the betPawa Premier League on Thursday.
The Royals have struggled in the second half of the season as they currently sit in 17th place with 27 points – seven points richer than bottom placed Kotoku Royals and one point behind Great Olympics, King Faisal and Tamale City who are in 16th, 15th and 14th places respectively.
Legon Cities have won only once in the second round of the campaign – and will be hoping to continue the run to protect their Premier League spot.
League champions Asante Kotoko Kotoko parted with Seydou Zerbo after their 2-0 loss to Medeama SC on Sunday and successor Abdul Gazale will be leading the Porcupines in this encounter.
Asante Kotoko are 7th in the League log with 34 points, 4 points fourth place Accra Lions and 7 points adrift of leaders Aduana FC – but with a game in hand.
Cities held Kotoko to a 1-1 draw in Kumasi when they met in the first round of the season.
Steven Mukwala gave Asante Kotoko the lead through a spot kick in the 15th minute before Sadat Mohammed equalized for Legon Cities in the 51st minute.
Both sides are in dire need of the points for different reasons – as Legon Cities aims to beat the drop. Champions Asante Kotoko are pushing to close the gap at the top of the table having won only twice in their last five matches.
Meanwhile the game between Medeama SC and Bibiani Gold Stars that was rained off in Tarkwa on Wednesday will be played Thursday morning.
In the other match, Real Tamale United would aim for the points against strugglers Accra Great Olympics at the Aliu Mahama stadium.
